End the Hunting and Trapping of Bobcats in Colorado!
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commissioners are voting on a citizen's petition to ban the hunting and trapping of bobcats in the state during their public hearing in Grand Junction on Thursday, May 9, 2019.
Submit a comment to show your support for bobcats!
We have a rare opportunity to save thousands of lives. A Colorado resident has submitted a citizen's petition to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commissioners (CPW) to ban the recreational and commercial hunting and trapping of bobcats in Colorado. Every year the bobcat death toll rises and sometimes endangered lynx, who look a lot like their bobcat cousins, also get caught in the crosshairs.
Can we count on you to be a voice for bobcats? Commissioners will vote on the petition during their public hearing this coming Thursday, May 9th from 11am - 2:30pm at the Courtyard Marriott on 765 Horizon Drive in Grand Junction. It is imperative that people show up in support of this petition. The location of this meeting isn't an accident. Set in the heart of bobcat trapping territory, officials don't expect people who care about the health and well-being of bobcats to attend a meeting so far away from urban areas. Let's prove them wrong.
Our friends at Colorado Prairie Protection (CPP) have worked tirelessly to organize support for this petition. In fact, it was a CPP supporter who recently alerted Big Cat Rescue to this opportunity. We're late to this fight, but we want to bring all the support we can to help Colorado's bobcats.
During the hearing, CPW will ask people to stand up for a count of who is in support and who is against the petition. Hunting and trapping groups from around the country have mobilized their supporters. Bobcats need your presence! We know we're asking a lot, but this is so important. Please, do everything in your power to attend this meeting and show the commissioners that the citizens of Colorado oppose the hunting and trapping of bobcats!
Can't make this meeting? Then please submit a comment ASAP (no later than Noon on Monday, May 6th) to CPW Commissioners asking them to support the citizen's petition to ban the hunting and trapping of bobcats in Colorado.
