The Big Cat Public Safety Act (BCPSA) passed in December 2022 and makes petting big cat cubs illegal with severe penalties, including up to five years in prison. We have been in dialog with US Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) who are charged with enforcing it. We all know the wheels of government don’t typically turn quickly, and, in fairness, they have been occupied with setting up for the other major requirement of the law, the registration of unlicensed owners, which has a deadline of June 18 fast approaching.
Meanwhile, one roadside zoo, West Coast Game Park in Oregon, has been blatantly violating the law by offering a jaguar cub for petting. One way we can help FWS prosecute once they put their process for that in place is to document that West Coast KNOWS they are violating the law by sending as many emails as possible to them informing them of that and urging them to stop.
Please take a minute to help by filling out this form to send an email to them that we will then provide to FWS. If you get a response to your email, please forward it to Howard.Baskin@BigCatRescue.org.
On behalf of this poor jaguar cub and the others the BCPSA will save from abuse, thanks very much!
