This is Lila. She is a nearly-hairless tigress who has suffered for years at the Waccatee Zoological Farm in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The roadside zoo claims she is "just old" and doesn't have anything wrong with her. We strongly believe this tiger is suffering from an apparent medical condition that has left her nearly bald and is not receiving proper veterinary care. She's been confined to a tiny, barren cage for years and is often seen pacing, a sign of stress.
We believe she needs immediate medical attention and should be transferred to an accredited sanctuary for big cats where she can receive expert care and appropriate treatment. And Lila is just one of several big cats, bears, primates and other wild animal at the zoo who appear to be in ill health and suffering from lack of proper care. Some have already died there.
South Carolina authorities are aware of the situation and have done nothing to stop the suffering; in fact the various agencies claim it is someone else’s jurisdiction and not their problem. As a citizen of South Carolina, would you please speak up for Lila and the other animals at this deplorable zoo by submitting our email that will reach officials at USDA, Horry County Police, Horry County Sheriff’s Office and SC State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
